Life

Life at JCC

All students are expected to take part in at least one extra-curricular activity per week during each term. Our wide range of activities provide academic, physical and artistic opportunities in addition to the curriculum. The extra-curricular programme supports the development of the individual, their access to the current curriculum and their future prospects for study, work and as confident individuals and global citizens.

Facilities

Our well-resourced classrooms are stimulating and designed to facilitate our school aims and there are extensive facilities in the school compound to provide academic, physical and artistic opportunities.

Beyond the classroom

At JCC we aim to ensure that we maximize opportunities for children beyond the classroom. We believe that as well as enhancing their childhood experiences, this helps them to develop into well-rounded individuals with a wide range of skills that may be of use in their futures.

Our community

JCC has a strong community ethos, where we actively encourage our parents and guardians to become part of the JCC family, forging friendships that will last across the miles and years.

Home-School Partnership

At JCC we actively encourage an open and honest home-school partnership. Our home-school diaries, newsletters, and parents evenings help us to maintain a healthy relationship with the JCC community. We also have a successful ‘Friends at JCC’ (FAJ) parent and teacher committee who meet regularly to work on family and community events.

Transport

Children at JCC can take advantage of our fleet of yellow school buses allowing most of Mombasa be covered by a convenient route to school. We also offer a late bus service to enable more children to participate in after school activities. An optional door-to-door service is also available.

Uniform

All JCC students are required to wear a uniform.

At JCC we believe our curriculum should be balanced, broad and relevant to our learners. The key aim for our teaching and learning is to provide opportunities for all pupils to be active learners, to enjoy and to achieve, alongside developing the attributes of confident individuals and responsible global citizens.

JCC’s curriculum is based upon the National Curriculum but includes additional learning opportunities that we plan for all our pupils to enhance and extend the National Curriculum. For example:

The Performing Arts

Maximizing and celebrating creativity through drama lessons, participating in performances and developing musically, through music lessons and opportunities to learn a musical instrument.

Sports

Promoting physical activity and competitive aspirations. Games lessons are dedicated to the major sports of the terms and we have a well established inter-school sports circuit, as well as inter-house competitions within the school, allowing for all children to compete. Swimming team members who meet the qualifying times, will get the opportunity to compete at National and International Level.

Active lifestyles

Additional Swimming lessons as part of the timetable, as well as access to the school gym for secondary pupils and an extra-curricular programme that includes racket sports, different dance disciplines and exercise classes.

Personalised Learning

We believe that every child is an individual and as such has individual needs. When your child starts school at JCC, he/she will be informally assessed by the classteacher in order for us to understand what level your child is working at; targets for improvement will then be set. If your child needs additional learning support or is very able, JCC’s specialist Personalised Learning Department can provide support and challenge materials for your child. This extra provision is regularly monitored and updated.

Outdoor Learning

Developing environmental awe and wonder and appreciating the need to protect and respect what the outdoors has to offer.
